“88 Market” in Sri Kepayan

by: Hiew King Cheu

The empty 88 Market at the moment.

The long wait for the abandoned 88 Market to start operation in Kepayan Ridge, Kota Kinabalu is finally showing some light on starting operation soon.

The news came when the MCA Luyang Assemblyman Hiew King Cheu brought up the question in the recent Sabah State Assembly sitting as when the proposed market can be functional.  Many people in the vicinity of Kepayan would prefer to have a market there for them to do their marketing and shopping for their needs.

The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) in the reply saying that they are working closely with the Peak 88 Management Sdn Bhd (formerly known as LD Biofuel Industry Sdn Bhd) to use the 88 Market building in Kepayan Ridge as a market to sell food items and daily consumer goods to the people in the neighborhood of Kepayan.

At the moment, they are waiting for the completion of all the necessary documentation and the signing of the agreement before the operation and business can commence here in the market.

Hiew pointed out that when this market is in full operation, surely this will be very convenient to the people here. They can get their daily fresh vegetables, fish and meat together with other groceries easier. Also there will be plenty of opportunities for the hawkers and many jobs available.

He urged the DBKK to speed up the process and get the 88 Market going without further delay, and at the same time this is good for DBKK to get some income from the market.
